Having just found out that the R01 I submitted in June was unscored, I couldn't agree more.

Branching out is great intellectually, but trying to break into a new field is a pain in the ass.

It's not Sisyphus that the academic resembles. It's Prometheus.

    Sorry to hear that AL.

Especially with all those postdocs sitting on the ball complaining. Amirite?

  • Knowing that feeling says:

    Same here AL.

    Not Discussed. . .

Sigh. I'm down but not out. . .

  • In grad school my colleague named her ephys rig Tantalus. Mine was Sisyphus.

What??!!?? No way. Mine's the Millennium Falcon. (She may not look like much, but she's got it where it counts, kid.)

Not discussed. I am down AND out. 🙁

Sorry to hear that eeke. Brutal.

I saw applications from several well-respected and established investigators in the not-discussed portion of the list in my most recent study section. Also, I saw good applications get discussed and get scores that are not going to be competitive for funding. Personally, I don't see "not-discussed" as carrying the stigma of failure that it used to. I think many of those grants just need to be tweaked and sent back in.

Meh, I have other funding (and tenure), so I'm in better shape than many. It's just frustrating trying to get admitted to a new "club". The response to the papers about the new research direction have been enthusiastic, I would think there is some overlap between the folks reviewing the manuscripts and the folks reviewing the grants.

    Ah well....revise and resubmit motherf*cker!

And maybe I could get an established big wig in this field to come on as a co-PI...

An appropriate time to post this again:

    CPPs finest work.
