That thing where someone else at the University is walking around, obviously checking out under-utilized lab space and then when caught says:

"Oh, well, it looked on RePORTER like you have just like the one grant in no-cost extension so.... [awkward pause]"

    I got like $50k worth of used equipment from dismantled labs when I started. I would say that 75% of it broke down beyond repair in the first year. In most cases due to lack of maintenance beforel i got it.

    Exactly. We are using multiple labs just for storage and nobody cares when the whole corridor is empty.

    It's the model currently in use by most standalone med-schools - where tenure is just a six-letter word - regardless of rank.
