An interesting point some blog commenter made years (on Megan McArdle's old site, IIRC)... We no longer have festival foods, and instead extremely rich dishes formerly reserved for special occasions (kung pao chicken, tamales, PhysioProf's wedding soup) are now everyday meals, if not $1 dollar menu items. As he said, it's the equivalent of sitting down in front of the TV with a wedding cake in your lap.

JSinger, Dr. Isis sees absolutely nothing wrong with this. In fact, she would encourage this practice. However, wedding cake eaten in from of the TV must only be made with buttercream frosting and NOT under any cicumstance with fondant.
    Fondant is Satan's cake covering.

Seems like it would block your view of the TV...
Anyway, while you've been handing PhysioProf his head pretty consistently so far and the onion soup sounds great, pumpkin / cilantro / mint /pesto is a bit offputting. (And discriminatory against the cilantro-impaired like myself, if not an outright violation of the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act.) And mixing Jameson with champagne is a waste of adequate whiskey.
